Geometric correlations and breakdown of mesoscopic universality in spin transport.

چکیده
We construct a unified semiclassical theory of charge and spin transport in chaotic ballistic and disordered diffusive mesoscopic systems with spin-orbit interaction. Neglecting dynamic effects of spin-orbit interaction, we reproduce the random matrix theory results that the spin conductance fluctuates universally around zero average. Incorporating these effects into the theory, we show that geometric correlations generate finite average spin conductances, but that they do not affect the charge conductance to leading order. The theory, which is confirmed by numerical transport calculations, allows us to investigate the entire range from the weak to the previously unexplored strong spin-orbit regime, where the spin rotation time is shorter than the momentum relaxation time.

Fundamental Aspects of Electron Correlations and Quantum Transport in One-dimensional Systems
Some aspects of physics on interacting fermions in 1D are discussed in a tutoriallike manner. We begin by showing that the non-analytic corrections to the Fermiliquid forms of thermodynamic quantities result from essentially 1D collisions embedded into a higher-dimensional phase space. The role of these collisions increases progressively as dimensionality is reduced until, finally, they lead to...
متن کاملSupplemental Material for the manuscript LW12553 Weak localization in mesoscopic hole transport: Berry phases and classical correlations
In this supplement we provide additional information to our calculations on mesoscopic hole transport [1]. In Section A we compare the band-structure and Berry phases between the 4-band Hamiltonian used in [1] with the more general 8× 8 Hamiltonian. In Section B we provide a derivation of Eq. (7) in [1]. In Section C we consider weak localization in 2-band and 4-band based models for HgTe cavit...
متن کاملBreakdown of universality in quantum chaotic transport: the two-phase dynamical fluid model.
We investigate the transport properties of open quantum chaotic systems in the semiclassical limit. We show how the transmission spectrum, the conductance fluctuations, and their correlations are influenced by the underlying chaotic classical dynamics, and result from the separation of the quantum phase space into a stochastic and a deterministic phase. Consequently, sample-to-sample conductanc...

In this paper, we have investigated the spin-dependent transport properties and electron entanglement in a mesoscopic system, which consists of two semi-infinite leads (as source and drain) separated by a typical quantum wire with a given potential. The properties studied include current-voltage characteristic, electrical conductivity, Fano factor and shot noise, and concurrence. The calculatio...
متن کاملBreakdown of universal transport in correlated d-wave superconductors.
The prediction and observation of low-temperature universal thermal conductivity in cuprates has served as a keystone of theoretical approaches to the superconducting state, but recent measurements on underdoped samples show strong violations of this apparently fundamental property of d-wave nodal quasiparticles. Here, we show that the breakdown of universality may be understood as the conseque...
